With Invisalign clear braces, Oakville and Burlington area teens and adults look great while they get straighter smiles. Potential Invisalign patients often have questions about treatment and commonly ask how to care for the aligners. You’ll be happy to learn that it is easy to keep your teeth, mouth, and trays sparkling clean.
Home oral hygiene is a breeze!
Invisalign is different from conventional orthodontics. Instead of bands, brackets, and wires, teeth are gently repositioned with transparent plastic aligners (also called trays). Since aligners are not cemented to teeth, they are removable. It is important to wear the aligners 20 to 22 hours each day for effective straightening. However, unlike traditional braces, Invisalign clear aligners can be taken out which makes oral hygiene fast and easy. This allows you to maintain a healthy and bright smile without any inconvenience.
Keeping aligners clean and sanitary
To keep aligners crystal clear and odor-free:
- Rinse the trays when you remove them to eat or brush your teeth. Rinsing removes saliva and plaque that let odor-causing bacteria flourish. Be sure to place aligners into their storage case – not in a dinner napkin where they might be thrown in the trash accidentally.
- Brush aligners gently, using a soft toothbrush and colourless soap. Tinted soap may stain the aligners. Rinse thoroughly with tepid water (hot water could warp the plastic).
- Sanitize aligners by soaking in retainer cleaner or Invisalign cleaning crystals. It is a good idea to do this at least a few times each week.
