The loss of a tooth is not the end of a smile. At Burloak Centre Dentistry, we offer a number of wonderful solutions for residents of Oakville and surrounding communities. In many cases, dental implants are the treatment of choice. They mimic the natural anatomy of a tooth
more closely than any other restorative option, providing unparalleled stability and esthetics.
Why Replace Missing Teeth
Whether you have lost one, several, or all of your teeth, the negative effects may be more far-reaching than you realize. Missing teeth can cause or contribute to:
- Shifting of remaining teeth
- Cavities in remaining teeth
- Gum disease
- Difficulty speaking clearly
- Inefficient or uncomfortable chewing
- Embarrassment about the appearance of your smile
The Benefits of Dental Implants
Traditional prosthetic teeth only replace the upper portion; they do not replace the roots. A dental implant is a synthetic tooth root. It is surgically embedded in the bone, at approximately the same location where a root would be, and it serves the same function. Implants preserve your jawbone and provide maximum stability. You will be able to enjoy your favourite foods again, smile with pride
, and speak with confidence.
What to Expect
Depending on your needs, one or several implants may be placed. A single tooth is replaced with one implant and a specially designed crown. For replacing several teeth, an implant bridge is typically placed. For patients who are missing all of their teeth, several implants will support a full bridge or a denture. Because we have an in-house denturist, you can feel confident that you will receive a beautiful, comfortable, customized, skillfully crafted appliance.
The entire process is completed right here in our office, by the dental team that you know and trust. The first step is a consultation and planning, followed by a minor oral surgery to place the implants. With digital x-rays and intraoral cameras, the procedure is planned with precision accuracy, for optimal results. Although the procedure is gentle and comfortable with topical anesthetic, we also offer sedation if you wish.
The implants are covered with a healing collar or temporary restoration. It takes several weeks or months for the bone to bond with the implant, permanently securing it in place. Once this process is complete, your final restoration will be added. With good hygiene practices and good dental care, your new smile can last a lifetime
